THE chairman of Cowdenbeath Area Committee has agreed that communication between the council and tenants in a Benarty street has been unsatisfactory.

At a meeting of the Area Committee it was decided that five blocks of houses in Inchgall Avenue, Crosshill, would have to come down to help change the image of the street. It was also agreed that three blocks would be upgraded. But one of the Inchgall tenants contacted the Times to say that she should not have had to read about the decision in the paper. “I am very concerned by reading about this in the newspaper,” the tenant said, “I moved to Inchgall Avenue to be nearer my mother who needs assistance and now I wonder what the future holds.

“I have a young family, one of whom starts school at the end of the holidays and I want her to go the local school. What happens if we have to move?” She added, “I feel we should have been told about what was going on through the various stages of these plans but we have been left in the dark.” Area Committee chairman, Councillor Willie Clarke agreed with the tenant and added, “I totally agree that communication has not been good. I have spoken to the housing department and they say they will be getting in touch with tenants in Inchgall Avenue to give them a full update and then will continue to keep them up to speed with what will be happening and timescales, but that should have been happening from the start”. He added, “The problem is that the Local Office has not been properly briefed on what has been going on and people have been going to the office at the Benarty Centre and not been getting answers. This really has to change.
