POPULAR Lochore couple, Margaret and Robert Glencross, celebrated their golden wedding on Friday.

Both are from the Benarty area, Margaret having been born and brought up in Lochore and Robert from Glencraig, and they were married on Friday 20th March 1965 at Lochcraig Church.

Margaret worked at Kelty Co-operative Society’s shop in the village before her marriage and after their two children grew up she was to spend over 16 years with two Fife based care homes.

She had a decade at Henderson House, in Dalgety Bay, and just over six years at Fernlea House, in Cardenden, where she was involved with cleaning and laundry services.

Margaret has been very keen on knitting since being a young girl and over the years has made a lot of clothes for her family.

Robert started his working life as an apprentice at Rosyth Dockyard and left to join the police and spent 14 years with Fife Constabulary, based at the HQ in Kirkcaldy.

He was seven years the steward at Glencraig Institute and latterly worked in an egg preparation factory in Loanhead, making solutions for the bakery industry.

He was to finish up working at the Tesco store at Duloch Park, in Dunfermline, and retired at the age of 70 as his health started to be less reliable.

Over the years he was a member of Lodge Ballingry 1183 and is a past RWM and received his 50th years membership certificate a couple of years ago.

He has always been a keen gardener but as his health has not been so good he has had to do a lot less, but admits to still enjoying pottering about in the spring and summer months.

Both Margaret and Robert, who have daughter Carol and son James and two grand-daughters, enjoy car outings and trips up north are a regular part of their itinery.

They celebrated their golden wedding with a surprise party organised at the home of daughter Carol, for family and friends.
