THE success of the Futures Programme and improvements to King George V Park, in Crosshill, were among the points duiscussed at Benarty Community Forum’s annual general meeting last Monday.

Among the key points were that at the start of the year the Forum was instrumental in helping to set up the steering group for the Benarty Futures programme.

This was a huge success and helped the Forum build better bridges with local groups and organisations, which also benefited from the £25,000 that was received from the Coalfields Regeneration Team.

Some of the groups that benefited from this were, The Messy Church, Benarty Astros, Kids Come First and Benarty Environment Group. The 5 year Action Plan was drawn up and a booklet printed with the community’s views.

There have been several issues resolved that were of concern in the villages. One being the derelict garage in Crosshill, which is in the process of being turned into new housing.

New benches and notice boards throughout the four villages, new bus stops and the new playpark in Crosshill.

The Forum will also be working in partnership with Fife Council to get the new pavilion situated at King George V Park and assist to get funding in place to upgrade the drainage of the park Another project which the Forum were involved, and still are, is the new proposed Skatepark and Multi Universal Games Arena to be situated in Benarty at the Community Centre. This was started off by a group of young skateboard enthusiasts who had to travel every time they wanted to use other skate parks. They have put in a lot of work, along with Mary Brogan and Andy McGrath of the CLD of Fife Council, who, the meeting felt, should be commended for their time and effort. The project has a considerable amount of funding in place at the moment.

The Forum will also be working in partnership with the Community Council and Foundation Scotland, to set up a community fund to deal with the revenue that has come from the Infinis Wind Farm, at Westfield.

If anyone would like to become involved in Benarty Community Forum they would be more than welcome. The Forum meets on the first Monday of each month at Benarty Centre at 7pm
