THREE Benarty boys, who lost their possessions in a house fire, have been treated to a Christmas shopping trip thanks to Kingdom Kids.

Ryan, Benjamin, and Kian Rafferty are currently living in temporary accommodation following an explosion at their Lochore home in September.

The Rafferty family were out when the explosion happened; however, most of their possessions were destroyed.

This week, Kingdom FM’s children’s charity, Kingdom Kids, surprised Ryan, Benjamin and Kian outside Benarty Primary School. The twins, who are seven years old, and five year old Kian were taken on a magical mystery tour before arriving at Toys R Us, in Kirkcaldy, for a shopping spree. Their personal shopper, Vicki Lister, gave the boys a trolley each to help them during their hunt for a selection of toys and games. They were greeted by the Kingdom FM mascot, ‘The Kingdom Kid’; the Toys R Us giraffe, ‘Geoffrey’; and even Santa Claus.

It’s been a challenging year for the Rafferty family following the death of a close family member. Five year old Kian is also faced with a host of daily challenges. He was born with a very rare condition, known as ‘Bladder Exstrophy.’ It means his bladder sits outside his body causing incontinence.

Mum, Elaine Rafferty, who accompanied the boys to Toys R Us in Kirkcaldy said, “It’s been an emotional day but a happy one, especially seeing the boys’ faces light up. The experience means the world to them.” Elaine also spoke about the house fire, “It’s been a difficult few months.

“We haven’t been able to think about Christmas because of the fire and we told the boys that Santa may not be able to come this year. After today though, there might be nothing left for Santa to deliver!” Kingdom FM breakfast presenter, Vanessa Motion, accompanied the boys and said, “They’ve been through a difficult year, losing their granddad and their home. It was an absolute pleasure to surprise the boys outside their school and take them shopping.

“We were all surprised when we met Santa shopping in the adventure aisle! Thank you to the staff at Toys R Us who allowed us to go wild.” The family hope to return to their Lochore home before Christmas.

They’re also looking forward to a trip to The Alhambra Theatre in Dunfermline.

The theatre has kindly donated Christmas Panto tickets for them to enjoy ‘Sleeping Beauty’.
