LAST Saturday night down the Meedies was more than a little scary with some strange creatures wandering about in the country park!

But almost 200 brave people turned up to take on Benarty Fundraisers’ spooky walk which saw people pay to be terrified!

The social media network had taken news of the Fundraisers’ 2014 venture far beyond Benarty and people turned up from Tayside, the Lothians and even Strathclyde, to take on the spooks of Lochore Meadows Country Park.

Said one of the organisers, James Fotheringham, “It was amazing. By 15 minutes before the start time of 6pm around 70 people had gathered at Lochore Institute to register and they kept on coming.

“We ended up with 180 people taking on the spooky challenge and going into the country park and finding out what awaited them.” James reported that the venture raised over £1500 which will be used to back events in the Benarty area.

“We charged each person £5 to undertake the walk and some had also taken sponsor sheets so it turned out to be a great night and the weather was just about perfect for the spooky walk, with rain some times and then nice clear conditions before more rain,” he added.

“We had about double last year’s number on the walk while there was a packed hall at the Institute for the children’s Halloween party while the Red Goth was also packed for the disco which followed the walk.

“All in all it was a great night and Benarty Fundraisers would like to thank Lochore Institute, the Red Goth, and everyone who took part and helped us raise this fine sum of money and also those who helped in any way to make it all possible. We had to beg, steal and borrow to get everything in place and make it as scary as possible and to everyone who played their part we say thank-you.” James also said that Benarty Fundraisers would like to dedicate the evening to the McLelland family, who could not be with them on the night due to their recent bereavement.
