THE Benarty Heritage Preservation Group is producing a 2015 calendar and these are now on sale at outlets in Crosshill, Lochore and Ballingry.

This week we look a three of the pictures contained in the calendar and also look at some other views of the Benarty area as taken by local amateur snapper, Jim Taylor.

The calendars are priced at £3 and the group have been delighted to fix up sponsors to back their venture to make publishing it possible.

The pictures include Curling at the Meedies , the Lodging of a Time Capsule which was the sealing of a piece of local history at the new community centre; and a shot of the Milton at Crosshill.

Jim’s pictures have helped the Heritage Group cover different parts of the history of the district and he is always delighted share his photographs with people.

The calendars are ideal for folk who may want to send them to relatives down south or abroad and can be obtained now.

The Heritage Group has been busy over the past few months organising their commemoration event marking the input of local families and individuals into the First World War effort which started 100 years ago. A major event was held recently at the Benarty Centre which included songs from children at Benarty and St Kenneth’s Primary Schools.

The Heritage Group is also preparing for the project which will be starting soon to preserve the historic Lochore Castle, beside Lochore Meadows Country Park. They have been involved with the Lomonds Partnership in a project which will see the area around the ancient castle cleaned up and it is hoped that the castle will eventually be floodlit.

The Group are always looking for new members and anyone interested in getting involved can find details at Benarty Community Centre, in Flockhouse Avenue.
