YOUNG people looking to find their way into a job have been learning vital skills from Fife construction businesses at the Crosshill Centre.

Employers and job seekers came together at two events at BRAG Enterprises, in Crosshill, organised by Opportunities Fife.

Those who took part learned interview techniques, skills needed to build a good CV and information about employers who are currently looking to fill vacancies.

Motivation sessions were also held to improve confidence of those applying for jobs and going for interviews.

The pre-recruitment events were organised as part of the council’s £5 million Fife Youth Job Contract (FYJC).

The project, being delivered by the Opportunities Fife partnership, gives young people aged between 16 and 24 a chance to work towards a Modern Apprenticeship or find their way to the right career.

Councillor Tony Martin, chair of Opportunities Fife and Fife Council’s Youth Ambassador said, “Bringing employers with vacancies together with young people looking for work is a great idea.

“Employers get the chance to talk to potential recruits about the standard and skills they’re looking for and job applicants get to learn new skills. We’ve heard from local employers they have vacancies to fill right now, with more coming up in the next few months so I hope the young Fifers I met at the events will be able to get a chance to work with them.” Depute Council Leader Lesley Laird, spokesperson for Economy and Planning, added other employers and young people could be missing out!

She said: “We’ve already helped nearly 2000 young people find their way into apprenticeships which has taken Fife to third in Scotland for the highest number of apprentices. It’s important the Opportunities Fife partnership continue to build on this success and help others find their way.

“Local employers can also benefit by getting involved too and I’d urge anyone interested to get in touch!” Don’t miss out!
