THE Fife People's Assembly is inviting people to go and tell how the new Universal Credit welfare system is affecting their lives.

Fife People’s Assembly and Fife Trades Union Council are holding a public information meeting in Templehall Community Centre, Kirkcaldy, on Saturday February 17 from 11:00am till 2:00pm to discuss a number of issues and the impact of Universal Credit is a key one.

The three topics that will be on the agenda are Universal Credit, the STUC Better than Zero Campaign; and the new People’s Assembly programme In place of Austerity, a programme for the people.

Benarty man, Tam Kirby of Fife PA, said: “We are asking people who are on Universal Credit to come along and tell us from their perspective, how Universal Credit is impacting on their lives.

"We would also invite all political representatives from Fife Council and the Scottish Parliament, to come and listen to those on this draconian system.

“We have updated and improved our information booklet on understanding Universal Credit and will have copies for all who require them.”

Tam added: “Universal credit is not just an unemployment benefit, it is also for those who are in work and we would invite everyone to attend and to find out how it can impact on you, even if you are in work”

“The Better than Zero campaign is a wonderful example of young trade union activists organising within the hospitality industry.

"They have recently started a branch in Dunfermline and will be on hand to offer help, advice and support for anyone working within this industry.

“We extend an open invitation for everyone to attend this important meeting and look forward to a fruitful afternoon of debate and discussion.”

As affiliates to the People’s Assembly Scotland both the PA and Trades Council are happy to be promoting the new campaigning booklet that has just been produced. This offers alternatives to austerity and offers a new way of financing public services, creating jobs and Industry.
