A BALLINGRY man got behind the wheel just one week after he had been disqualified from driving.

Dale Foley told Dunfermline Sheriff Court, on Wednesday, that he had to take a friend to the hospital when he appeared for sentencing.

Foley, 28, of Martin Crescent, previously admitted that on December 30 on a road, namely Queensferry Road, Dunfermline, he being a person disqualified for holding or obtaining a licence to drive a motor vehicle, did drive a motor vehicle while so disqualified.

Police observed his car driving on Queensferry Road at about 1pm on the day.

When they carried out a DVLA check it confirmed that Foley had been disqualified.

He was then taken back to Dunfermline Police Station and his vehicle was seized.

Defence solicitor, Alexander Flett, said his client had been with an acquaintance close to his house who had recently taken fits and bitten off his tongue in the process.

That friend said he was feeling unwell.

"Mr Foley panicked and went to get his vehicle," Mr Flett said. "He was trying to reach the hospital in Dunfermline."

Sheriff Charles Macnair said: "You had no business being behind a wheel of a vehicle after being disqualified a week before."

He imposed 180 hours of unpaid work and disqualified Foley from driving for 16 months.
