PEOPLE interested in becoming part of the new board to be set up to run Lochore Meadows Country Park have been invited to put themselves forward.

Cowdenbeath Area Committee, at its meeting last Wednesday,

considered a report advising of the responses received to a consultation exercise regarding the terms of reference for the proposed Lochore Meadows Country Park Development Board.

The committee agreed that further discussions should be undertaken to determine the membership of the Group; and agreed that the Group should develop its own terms of reference once established.

It was also recommended that the Convener of the Fife Council Housing & Communities Committee should be invited to be a member of the Development Board.

Said Cowdenbeath Area manager, Kevin Sayer: "In the light of those decisions, nominees and volunteers are being sought to take this work forward.

"Those recruited will work, in the first instance, with Fife Voluntary Action, to address issues around Board membership, governance and remit.

"Support will also be available from Community Learning and Development staff. They will also meet and receive reports from those currently responsible for managing

Lochore Meadows Country Park and its various operations and will be able to influence current and future initiatives".

At the Area Committee Ballingry member, Councillor Mary Lockhart, said that this was a very important time in the park's history with the new visitor centre about to open and the golf/football facility in action.

She added: "It will be an exciting time for those who go on the management board but it is also vital that those who do go aboard have the appropriate training available to them to assist in what will be an important job."

Councillor Lea McLelland added: "This is such a superb facility and it is vital that we get the right people on the management board to take it forward."

And Councillor Ally Bain said: "It is important that we get the board established fairly quickly because 2018 will soon be dawning and there are decisions needing to be taken about the way ahead."

Committee chair, Councillor Linda Erskine said: "Over the past 12 months or so there has been a lot of good progressive discussion among the public about various aspects of the park and I know that at least three community councils have nominated people to serve on the management board.

"That is encouraging and hopefully more people, from different aspects of the community, will come forward to consider serving on the Meadows board."

Any nominations or volunteer requests should be made to Kevin Sayer, Community Manager (Cowdenbeath Area), Brunton House, High Street, Cowdenbeath KY4 9QU

in writing or by e-mail to Kevin.Sayer@fife.gov.uk by Friday 19th January 2018. An initial meeting will be convened for all interested parties as soon as possible.
