THE members of Benarty Heritage Preservation Group extend a warm invitation to all members of the community to attend their Open Evening to be held at Lochore Miners' Welfare Institute on Wednesday October 18 between 6pm and 9pm.

Guest speaker at the Benarty Centre is Professor David Munro, who will talk on 'The Arctic' - around 6.30pm - 7.30pm following which light refreshments will be available.

There will be pictures and local history materials on display and there will be opportunities to purchase the Group's very colourful 2018 Calendar and to enter the prize raffle draw.

Members of the Group will be in attendance to answer questions and to provide information on the various projects that have been, and are now being, undertaken by the Group.

Said a spokesperson for BHPG: "New members would be welcome to come along to the Group meetings which are held in the Benarty Community Centre, each Tuesday, from 1.00pm - 3pm.

"It is no secret that the underlying aim of the Benarty Heritage Preservation Group is to see eventually the establishment of a functioning heritage centre within the Lochore Meadows Country Park which will enable the many visitors to this facility to see the full, rich and interesting history of this area which extends way back to times long before the arrival of large-scale coal working in the area which was mainly responsible for the expansion and development of the mining communities of Glencraig, Crosshill, Lochore and Ballingry".

A number of BHPG brochures and booklet publications, pertaining to local and other Fife mining events, will also be available covering a range of mining history including: the closure of Glencraig and Mary Collieries; and the Mary Pit Explosion of February 1908.
