Drunk Crosshill man with no licence stole car and crashed

Brentt Conway then smashed into parked vehicles causing extensive damage to them before crashing the car he was driving into bushes.

Conway, 21, of Inchgall Avenue, is now behind bars on remand and facing a jail sentence after pleading guilty a string of offences.

At Dunfermline Sheriff Court, he admitted that on 22nd April at Main Street, Crosshill, he stole a car.

He also admitted he drove the car dangerously in Main Street, repeatedly drove at excessive speed, causing collisions with parked vehicles.

He crossed the central reservation into the path of oncoming traffic and left the road, colliding with bushes.

He drove without a valid licence and failed to stop following the collisions.

He also drove having consumed excess alcohol. His reading was 126 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, the limit being 50 milligrammes.

Depute Carrie Stevens said at 9.30pm a driver had stopped their car and gone into a shop, leaving the keys in the ignition.

Conway entered the vehicle and drove it away, colliding with a number of vehicles shortly afterwards.

First he struck a Volkswagen Golf causing damage to it, briefly stopped then continued driving.

Moments later a witness heard a loud bang and looked out of their window to see their vehicle had been badly damaged. Conway continued driving after causing £400 damage to this parked car.

Shortly afterwards there was another loud crash and a witness saw the vehicle driven by Conway going “through the air and landing in bushes”.

“He was approached and ran off. Police were contacted. The accused was seen at 9.45pm. He was walking and flagged down a lift from a passing vehicle,” said the depute.

“The accused told the driver he had a sore neck and had been drinking since 2pm.”

Sheriff Craig McSherry called for reports and Conway will be sentenced on 11th October. He was remanded in custody and bluntly told by the sheriff, “It’s my intention to imprison you.”
