BENARTY footballer Lucy Graham has been named in the first Scotland squad to be picked by new coach Shelley Kerr.

The talented midfielder is one of 23 players selected for an international match with Hungary in Budapest on September 14 in what will be the women's side's first match since their maiden European Championship finals.

Hibernian Ladies midfielder Lucy, 20, is one of just two uncapped players – the other being Glasgow City goalkeeper Lee Alexander – by Kerr as she begins preparations for the start of World Cup qualifying in October.

With Scotland losing the services of goalkeeper and captain Gemma Fay, Ifeoma Dieke and Leanne Ross – who amassed a staggering 458 caps between them – Lucy joins a pool of players that includes experienced campaigners such as Dunfermline-born midfielder Caroline Weir, who has 41 caps, and others who are also aiming to become regulars in the squad.

Graham, who has represented Scotland at various youth levels, won 16 caps and scored five goals for the under-19s and was called up by previous head coach Anna Signeul for a friendly against Belgium in April.

The Scots were beaten 5-0 and Graham, an unused substitute, will hope to win her first cap this time around before Scotland begin their 2019 World Cup campaign against Belarus and Albania, with Switzerland and Poland completing their group.

Meanwhile Graham – named Benarty's Young Citizen of the Year in February – was on the scoresheet for her club in the Women's Champions League last Tuesday.

She and team-mate Katey Turner, from Crossgates, were named in the Hibs side to play Swansea City in their first match in Group Two, with hosts Olimpia Cluj and Kharkiv completing the line-up.

Ten group winners – and one best runner-up – qualifying for the group stages and the Central Fife duo inspired the Hibees to a crushing 5-0 opening game success.

After Rachael Small gave them the lead, Turner fired home the second before Graham netted the third from the spot.

The Ballingry star then completing the scoring with a fine turn and shot as Hibs prepared to complete their fixtures against Kharkiv on Friday and Cluj on Monday.
