A BALLINGRY man is taking on the challenge of climbing Ben Nevis on Saturday for a very good reason.
Christopher Bain wants to highlight the work done by Sands after experiencing what the organisation can do when a family loses a baby through stillbirth.
Said Christopher, from Ballingry Crescent: "I am climbing Ben Nevis for the charity Sands on Saturday August 26 in memory of my daughter who was stillborn at 41 weeks on the 1/3/10.
"The work of this organisation is quite outstanding and I do not think enough people know about what they do."
Sands supports anyone who has been affected by the death of a baby before, during or shortly after birth. Bereavement support is at the core of everything they do.
Some of the services that they offer include a Helpline for parents, families, an online forum and message boards enabling bereaved families to connect with others.
Added Christopher, whose Justgiving page is at justgivingskylabain said: "We were so fortunate to have Sands there to provide support because, it was such a terrible thing to experience.
"They deserve all the support they can get and this is why I am climbing Ben Nevis."
Christopher, who hopes to raise £650, will start his climb at 7.30am on Saturday and hopes to complete things in four to six hours.
"I have not tries anything like this so it will be a test for me," he added.
