LOCAL groups and community organisations in the Benarty area are being encouraged to apply to the Westfield (Benarty) Community Fund before the next round closes on September 15.

Three local groups received funding in the latest round: Lochore Miners Welfare Society and Social Club who received £1,965 to contribute towards costs in refurbishing the kitchen; Kids Come First SCIO, were awarded £1,880 to purchase bean bags, activity tables and chairs, and outdoor furniture; and Benarty Arts Club received £830 to contribute to annual tutor fees, room hire, materials and exhibition costs.

Tony Crombie, Infinis Wind Service Ltd said: “Over the last couple of years, the fund has been making a difference to the Benarty area, and we are keen to see this continue. We would encourage groups working in the area, to consider applying to the fund before the next deadline of the September 15.”

The fund offered by Infinis Wind Service Ltd, the owner and operator of the 4 turbine, 10MW wind farm between Benarty, Kinglassie and Cardenden will provide around £937,500 (index-linked) over the life of the project, expected to be 25 years.

The monies are being split between the communities of Cardenden, Kinglassie and Benarty. Each area has its own local panel made up of local people, making decisions on how the funds are to be used to benefit their area. Foundation Scotland is managing the Fund.
