THIS week’s Memory Lane pictures come from Ballingry man Alex Hunter.

They were taken around 50 years ago when the area which is now Lochore Meadows Country Park was dominated by coal workings including the Glencraig and the Mary collieries.

Indeed, the pictures show work beginning on the demolition of the Mary Colliery with the structures around the pithead being dismantled.

The work took some time but within a matter of a few years the work started on creating the country park which is now one of Scotland’s biggest visitor attractions.

If you have any pictures you would like to see in our Memory Lane feature then please send them by email to editorial@centralfifetimes.co.uk or take them into the Central Fife Times office, 17 Bank Street, Lochgelly, on a Monday or a Friday.
