LOCAL groups and community organisations in the Benarty area are being encouraged to apply to the Westfield (Benarty) Community Fund before the next round closes on May 31.

Grants from the Fund are being used to support the work of community groups, many of which are led by volunteers and who work tirelessly to try and improve the facilities and services for Benarty residents.

Previous beneficiaries include, Benarty Heritage Preservation Group, Benarty Leisure Club, Meedies Bike Club and Benarty Bumbles.

The fund offered by Infinis Energy, the owner and operator of the 4 turbine, 10MW wind farm between Ballingry and Kinglassie, will provide around £937,500 (index-linked) over the life of the project, expected to be 25 years.

Said a spokesperson for the Westfield Fund: "The monies are split between the communities of Benarty, Cardenden and Kinglassie.

"Each area has its own local Panel made up of representatives, making decisions on how the funds are to be used to benefit their area. Foundation Scotland is managing the Fund".
