THIS week's Down Memory Lane photographs come from Lochgelly businessman Alan Graham.

These feature a facility which was at one time one of the top nitespots in the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area.

Glencraig Miners Institute opened in 1905 and for 70 years was one of the places miners in the Benarty area used for their many social activities.

That continued to be the case into the 1970s but after the pits closed in the locality clubland started to struggle.

The Institute was gutted by fire which brought to an end its contribution to the social life of the Glencraig-Crosshill area.

Since then a succession of local clubs have closed and there are only New Carden Old Folks Club in Cardenden, Kelty Ex-servicemen's Club and Lochore Miners Institute left operating.

The pictures show the scenes after the fire before the club was demolished.

If you have any old pictures you would like to see in our Down Memory Lane column send them to editorial@centralfifetimes.co.uk or take them to the Times Office, 17 Bank Street, Lochgelly, on a Monday or a Friday.
