SPEED cushions could help make the B920 between Lochore and Ballingry that bit safer.

That is what councillors decided on Wednesday when the speed of traffic using the main road through Benarty was on the agenda.

Cowdenbeath Area Committee heard that sticking to the 30mph limit was something too many drivers were reluctant to do.

Traffic management officer, Phil Clarke, had taken up the matter after Lochs councillor Mary Lockhart had put the issue before the February meeting.

Ms Lockhart had stressed that there were two bus stops diagonally opposite Malcolm Street and that people often struggled to get across the road through the speed of traffic.

Mr Clarke reported on Wednesday: "Concerns have been raised regarding the speed of traffic on the B920 Lochleven Road through Ballingry, in particular in the vicinity if the bus stops and while the speed limit is 30mph the compliance level is poor.

"The bus stops are served by the 19 and 81 routes, both of which are well patronised.

"To improve road safety and address local concerns, speed cushions are proposed which would be installed approximately 85 metres apart either side of the bus stop locations."

He reported that he sought committee's approval to proceed with the road humps Order process and this provided residents with 21 days, after the notice is advertised, to view the plans and provide feedback or objections.

The plan was agreed by the committee.
