LOCHS councillor Ann Bain has this week been stressing her reasoning behind the motion put forward at the Fife Council Executive Committee to move the Cycle Loop Track planned for near Lochgelly High School to the Meadows.

She said there has been a great deal of debate and discussion in the local community regarding the proposed new visitors centre in the Meedies.

She said: "The complete lack of consultation with the local community, the reduced size of the prefabricated building, along with the lack of any thought into the design, there is also an issue about timescales for the new build.

"There has been two public meetings held where the local community put forward strong views to put the project on hold. At the second public meeting there was an overwhelming majority for the golf/football pavilion going ahead and the new proposed centre being put on hold for further consultation with the local community.

"Cllr Hood gave assurances at the meeting that the proposed new build would be put on hold if that was what the community wanted and he made a promise he had no authority to make and no intention of keeping.

"At Tuesdays Executive Committee it was extremely disappointing to see the Labour Party push ahead with the recommendations in the report to go ahead with the proposed buildings".

Ann Bain added: “Yet again, the Labour Party have shown total disregard for the local community and have not listened to the local people of Benarty and Fife.

"It also came out of the meeting last Tuesday that there is a shortfall in the funding for the new Cycle Track at Glencraig.

"The solution to both of these issues is if the Labour administration would only listen and put both these projects together.

"The savings from the car parking and combining both buildings could be put into a larger visitors centre in the Meedies fit for purpose.”
