A BALLINGRY man who made serious threats of violence after a dispute was given a community payback order on Wednesday.

Sheriff Charles MacNair told Paul Cusick that he understood that he was trying to protect his son but he took it too far when he tried to persuade his victims to go outside to fight.

Cusick, 39, of Navitie Park, Ballingry, previously admitted that on April 17 last year at Garry Park, in Glencraig, he behaved in a threatening and abusive manner which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm in that he shouted, swore, and uttered threats of violence.

Sheriff MacNair said: "You asked them to go out for a fight, not for a sensible discussion but to threaten them with significant violence, when children were also in the house."

Cusick was sentenced with 150 hours of unpaid work.
