A DRUGS raid in Ballingry ended in a violent assault on police officers who were injured when a bed collapsed during a struggle.

One of the officers sustained a suspected broken rib and the assailant has been warned he faces a lengthy jail term.

Brian Richardson, 28, of Cleikimin Crescent, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court and admitted five charges arising from the raid on his home on March 4 last year.

He admitted he produced a controlled drug, cannabis, at his home and was also in possession of cocaine.

He resisted, obstructed or hindered four police officers and struggled violently with them whereby one of the officers was injured.

Richardson admitted assaulting PC Kevin Drylie, by pushing him, causing him to fall on to a bed all to his injury.

He also assaulted PC Steven Dick and repeatedly attempted to strike him.

Depute fiscal Alex Piper said police attended at the house with a search warrant at 8.40am and were allowed entry.

A decision had been made not to force entry as there were children in the house.

They found Richardson in his bedroom who said: “Get out of my f****** house."

He was told to get dressed but became involved in an altercation with one of the officers, swinging his arm at him and struggling violently.

Richardson and two officers then fell on to his bed which collapsed and one of the constables was trapped under the accused.

Seven cannabis plants were found in the attic and cocaine with a value of around £700 was also seized.

One of the officers sustained injury to his back, shoulder and hip and another suffered bruised kidneys and a suspected broken rib, the Court was told.

Defence solicitor, Chris Sneddon, said: “Mr Richardson accepts full responsibility and is remorseful for his actions.”

Sheriff Craig McSherry called for reports and sentence was deferred until February 16.

He warned Richardson: “It’s in my mind to be impose a very lengthy custodial sentence so you might make preparations for that.”
