BENARTY Events Group members were delighted that to have their third and also biggest winner of their Community Lottery on Sunday.

Ballingry man George Scott scooped the £5500 jackpot and he can be seen receiving his cheque from the members of the group.

The group were delighted to have a winner and when the numbers were drawn out George knew within seconds that he had won.

George’s lucky numbers were 6, 7, 8, 15, 18 and 19. George has taken part in the lottery since it started in 2015.

He is the Community Lottery's third winner, the first was Elizabeth Rennie who won £2600 and Fee Izatt winning £4300.

Since the start of the lottery the local community and some people from outside the area have backed the Group in this venture and a big thank-you has to go out from the group for the support and they hope that it continues.

The Events Group's Michael O'Hare said: "Every single penny that comes in to the lottery goes back in to providing local events in the Benarty area. "Last year saw new Christmas lights put up in Ballingry and the lights that are in Crosshill and Lochore purchased at a cost of around £15,000.

"This year again saw both primary school children entertained both at Benarty Centre and the Alhambra Theatre in Dunfermline to a pantomime at a cost of about £5000.

"This is a great experience to see smiles on the children’s faces. The Xmas festivities this year saw for the first time the Reindeers and the Ice Rink both at Benarty Centre for all the young people of Benarty and everyone had a fantastic time. Again this was all done with the lottery money at a cost of around £17,000."

He added: "This lottery is a fantastic way to bring in income to assist the group with all the events and it could not be done with everyone’s participation. A special thanks also goes out to all the sponsors of the lottery tickets.

"The Group will now be concentrating on the summer events such as the annual gala and pipe band contest which again the lottery and fundraising events throughout the year will help put these massive events in place. These two events last year cost in excess of £20,000.

"As you can see the costs of events are not cheap but the lottery has been essential in bringing in the revenue to help the group and without it we would not be able to have these events.

"Tickets can be purchased in several local premises throughout the Benarty area. Cleikum Inn, Premier One both Martin Crescent, Premier One in Westwood Crescent, Nisa, Eclipse hairdressers & the Craigie Bar in Benarty Square.

"The Co-op, Ore Bank Café, Images hairdressers, The Red Goth & Lochore Institute all in Lochore, and Costcutters and Kutz hair stylist in Crosshill. "We hope that everyone that has bought a ticket continues and hopefully new participants will join in. As they say you have to be in it to win it.

"Finally, on behalf of the Events Group well done to George on his win and a huge thanks for everyone’s support. Have a great 2017 and remember Team work makes dreams work."
