THE Drop In at Auchterderran and Kinglassie Church is proving a huge success.

The initiative only started in January but it quickly became a feature of Tuesdays for so many people in the Cardenden and Kinglassie area.

The Drop In is open at the church hall in Cardenden from 11am to 1pm every Tuesday and is run and managed by volunteers from both Churches and is highly supported by Ore Valley Housing Association, Tesco Fareshare with additional support from Fife Council staff.

People of all ages find the initiative an inspiration with so much invaluable information available for them.

Danielle Porteous and Vicky Murdoch, from Ore Valley Housing Association, attend every week and provide support/advice regarding Universal Credit, Housing concerns or just to provide a friendly ear or to refer to a relevant support agency.

Vicky said: "The idea for the Drop In was to bring the community together through times where we are facing uncertainty with current changes to the benefits system and social isolation.

"The main purpose is to provide a comfortable space for a social gathering and for people to meet others and have a chat in a warm friendly environment.

"Over the past 34 weeks, since the project has started, various support agencies have come along with information regarding various services that are available in Fife: such as Cosy Kingdom, Fife Forum, Our Power, Bums off Seats, the Fire Service to name but a few, and a very welcomed visit from Mac the mobile museum bus!"

Vicky added: "The sessions are providing extremely popular and are open to everyon.

"We have regulars that attend every week, but it is also good to see some new faces as well... enough so that two weeks ago the team served 53 people!"

Each week hot homemade soup is served with fresh sandwiches, tea/coffee, homemade baking and biscuits etc... this is all FREE!!! ...

They also have an information stall and a table with FREE!! fresh fruit/vegetables, (when available) cereals, Ladies Sanitary Wear and anything else that has been donated on the day.
