FRESH from their triumphant debut run at the Edinburgh Festival, Lochgelly Youth Performing Arts brought their sell out run of The Addams Family back to their “ancestral home”, The Lochgelly Centre, writes Times theatre critic Kerry Black.

The show was at the Centre Theatre on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Anyone who has ever seen the famous 1960’s TV series will be familiar with the creepy and kooky antics of the inhabitants of Cemetery Lane.

The musical brings to life (or is that death), the well-loved characters in a touching yet hilarious homage to horror movies!

Directed and produced by the amazing Liam Nardone, who also plays Gomez, the father of the family, Liam once again proves with his superlative acting, dancing and singing, why he is destined for a career on stage.

Indeed, he is soon starting his university studies.

With excellent lighting design, and a simple, creepy stage set by John Urquhart of tomb stones and staircases, we were soon introduced to the Addams family and their chorus of ghastly ghouls.

The programme only listed the first names, but particular mention must go to Rebecca (in her first LY show) as the tango dancing Morticia, who truly glided around the stage, while the ever-dependable Courtney was simply outstanding in her best role yet as Wednesday.

While one Emily played the moonstruck Uncle Fester with pathos, Emily Juner gave another brilliant character portrayal as the wacky Grandma Addams.

The female principal line up was completed by another LY regular Freya in the hilarious role as the apparently uptight mother of Wednesday’s preppy boyfriend Lucas (Dylan) whose fawn suited father Mal Beineke (Aaron Cannelloni) was highly suspicious of the Addams!

With ten year-old Liam as Pugsley, the naughtiest wee brother ever, and Ciaran as the leaden footed family butler Lurch, whose singing talents were saved till last, this was a principal line up which would put many adult companies to shame.

The addition of an excellent live band, under Musical Director Michael Allan, added to the professionalism of the show, along with very effective costumes.

The Addams Family was at The Lochgelly Centre nightly and played to excellent audiences.
