A CHANCE meeting at the Palais De Danse, Cowdenbeath, had a glittering sequel on Thursday when Kelty couple Etta and John Campbell celebrated their diamond wedding.

Etta is a Kelty lass born and bred and has stayed at 8 Oak Street, all her life, while John was born in Auchtertool but lived in Lochgelly and Cowdenbeath before he met his wife to be.

Always interested in wood, John served his time as a joiner at Rosyth Dockyard and apart from two years' National Service in the RAF, spent 37 and a half years at the dockyard in the joinery department.

He became a gaffer and he loved ensuring that no wood was ever wasted!

When he left Rosyth he worked with Marshall Construction as a joiner in Tillicoultry for several years before his retiral 18 years ago.

He never liked to see wood wasted: "No matter what size of wood might be left over after a job I always felt something could be done with it."

The talented man who completed an upstairs conversion at the couple's home in Oak Street, used to make gifts for friends such as decorative bowls, and one of his creations can be seen in the picture.

Away from wood John was a keen artist and his home has many of his paintings on the walls, whether these be seascapes or landscapes.

Etta is proud to have been born and brought up in Kelty and even more so to have lived her life at 8 Oak Street.

She was a weaver at the Winterthur linen factory, in Dunfermline, for almost a decade before having her family.

The couple also worked for seven years helping run the Campbell Highlander pub in Lochgelly High Street, which was a family business.

Etta has been a keen knitter all of her days and used to make a variety of clothes for her two daughters and son. She was also a member of Kelty Musical Association for some years and appeared in 11 shows and likes to go along to the annual 'Kelty Show'.

The Campbells have always enjoyed holidaying abroad and had a special like for the Canary Island of Tenerife which they visited every single year over 27 years!

Etta and John have daughters Shonagh and Morag and son Keith and grandchildren Kyle and Callum and great-grandchildren Harley and Elle.

Their 60th anniversary was celebrated by a family meal at the weekend.
