AFTER the success of helping a young Indian boy through his education and into a full-time job as a motor mechanic, Cowdenbeath Rotary Club has set out to sponsor a girl and a boy over the next few years.

Through their link with the Jo Homan Trust young Annakodi was sponsored by the club through his schooling and then time at college and the rotarians were very pleased when he became a mechanic.

Annakodi wrote regularly to tell the club how he was doing and just last week letters arrived from B Selvalakshmi, the young girl who has just moved into the 10th Standard and S Barthiban, who has entered the 8th Standard.

The young lady is at a key stage of her educational development and the Cowdenbeath backing will help has as she moves towards an apprenticeship and the backing will aid her to receive quality training.

She said: "Without all the help I have received from you this would not have been possible and my family thank-you for giving me this opportunity."

The young lad added: "My studies are very important to me at this time and to enable me to continue with my education I must study very hard and I must thank-you for the opportunity you are giving me."

The rotary club pays round £220 for each youngster per year and it is a commitment the rotarians are committed to continuing.

Said international convener, Tom Russell: "The lengthy backing of Annakodi produced the most marvellous of endings.

"We decided to support both a boy and a girl this time and it has been brilliant to hear how they are progressing.

"Hopefully they will be both as successful as Annakodi."
