THE friends of a Cowdenbeath man who was murdered in a frenzied attack in Glenrothes five years ago held a special football match last weekend to remember him.

Daniel Turner died in an incident in Riverside Park, Glenrothes, which saw a man jailed for life.

Former Beath High School pupil Daniel was someone who had many friends in the Cowdenbeath area and they

immediately gathered around his family and close friends, Joe Schiavone and Ali Condie, decided to hold a memorial football tournament at the Beath High Astroturf.

The tremendous support of Daniel's friends and the public of Cowdenbeath in general was warmly praised by the family at the time and last weekend Joe was involved in organising the latest venture at the Beath Astro.

Said Joe: "We've recently played a game for charity in memory of our late friend Daniel.

"This year we raised money for Alzheimer Scotland, we managed to realise £270 for the charity as all the players donated £10 each.

"Beath High School has donated the astro turf pitch for us to have free use each year."

He added: "We've managed to raise over £2,800 over the six occasions we've hosted this Memorial Cup in memory of Daniel and will continue to choose a different charity each year to benefit from our match".

Our photograph shows the players that played and donated on Saturday and it was a day when 21 year-old Daniel was warmly remembered.
