A MAN who was found standing on a windowsill trying to break into a Cowdenbeath flat in the early hours of the morning, has been jailed for 30 months.

George McKenna, 28, a prisoner at Perth, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, where he admitted a string of offences.

On July 5, by standing on a windowsill and waste pipe and using a piece of rope to attempt to undo the latch of a partially-open window, he attempted to break into a ground-floor flat at South Street, Cowdenbeath.

He also admitted being in possession of a lock-knife.

McKenna further admitted that on July 6, he breached curfew conditions imposed at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

Then on July 11, at Dunfermline police station,he acted aggressively and repeatedly made threats to officers.

Depute fiscal Kyrsten Buist said a neighbour saw McKenna at the property after being woken up by the barking of a dog at 2.45am.

The police were contacted and officers found McKenna and another male at the scene.

McKenna told police that he was just trying to close a window for someone but then changed his story, saying he was there to pick up his belongings.

Officers then found McKenna was in possession of a lock-knife with a five-inch blade.

In the later incident, McKenna was arrested when found on a street when he should have been at home on curfew.

At the police station, McKenna said to one officer: “I’ll put a bullet in you. I’ll hit you with a bat.”

Defence solicitor James Moncrieff admitted: “He’s not a stranger to the courts.”

He added: “He had a Valium habit and can’t recall a great deal about the earlier incident. He has no recollection of what was going on.”

Sheriff Charles MacNair jailed McKenna for 30 months.
