LAST week saw the end of an era in Times Land when Auchterderran correspondent Alex Burns retired after 27 years service in the role.

Alex, who, for health reasons, has been stepping back from his community involvement, also felt it was time to hang up his pen.

He took over the role in the early 1990s and has been a weekly contributor to the District page and at the same time has supplied the Times with information on the John Thomson children's football tournament, the Willie Johnston tournament for pubs and clubs, and the workings of Cardenden Community Council.

Said Times Chief Reporter Jim Stark: "Alex has been a real stalwart for us over the years keeping the paper in touch with what is going on in the four ABCD villages and he will be greatly missed."

The various groups that Alex, who received the MBE for his community work, has kept the Times in touch with, are set to deliver their news items by email as the way ahead develops.

Jim and Times Office clerkess, Kerry Black, presented Alex with a specially inscribed clock to mark his retirement from the role.
