SUNDAY was the day that Lochgelly Albert Colts 2002s put their skills to the test against teams from England and Wales and emerged as the Best of British.

The Colts came out on top in the Coalfields Home Football Internationals finals held at New Central Park, Kelty, and lifted the trophy at the end of the day.

All six boys that played, Jack Farley, Todd Fleming, Cairn Dow, Callum Anderson, Callum Jarvis and Dan Thomson, showed their footballing skills through out the day.

The first game, with Lochgelly leading 3-0, saw them down a man as a red card was given.

The boys held on for the last eight minutes to win 3-2 over Graigwen FC, from Wales.

Scorers were Cairn Dow, Todd Fleming and Callum Anderson. Game 2 was against he other half of the Welsh team and saw Lochgelly running out 7-0 winners. Scorers were Dan Thomson, Callum Anderson (2), Todd Fleming, Callum Jarvis (3).

Game 3 saw the boys going against the English team of Airedale FC. This was a game that was totally dominated by Lochgelly and the boys rattled in the goals as they won 10-0.

Scorers were Callum Anderson (5), Cairn Dow (2), Dan Thomson, Todd Fleming and Callum Jarvis.

Game 4 was against another English team, from Kendray FC. Once again, the Lochgelly boys overran their opponents with a 7-0 victory. Scorers this time were Callum Jarvis, Cairn Dow (4) and Dan Thomson (2).

In the final Lochgelly came up against the other Scottish representative, in Milton Rovers FC.

It was hotly contested with some tasty tackling.

Callum Anderson broke the deadlock but Milton tied the score soon after.

'Keeper Jack Farley made some key saves to keep it tied at one each. Sub Callum Jarvis entered the fray and not long after coming on slotted home the winning goal with a very cool and composed finish. Lochgelly then played out the last couple of minutes to claim the title of British Champions.

Colts coaches Bob Wilson and Dan Farley were delighted with the consistency of the Colts' performances.

Bob said: "This is a great accomplishment for the boys involved and one where they made friends from other areas of the country.

"The boys, family and supporters should be proud as they were class all weekend.

Dan added: "We are very proud of the boys for conducting themselves in the proper manner throughout the weekend.

"Not many teams can say they have won the Home Internationals, but the boys from Lochgelly Colts can say it with pride. Well done lads and congratulations".
