THANKS to funding from the Benarty Fundraisers Lochore Welfare FC and Social Club has a fine new car park surface.

The Fundraisers first started on this project nearly 14 months ago after speaking to Welfare chairman John Kirkland and he informed them that the Welfare park was a community owned facility that he would like to be used a lot more by the people of Benarty.

After the function room having a make-over it made a big difference to the appearance of this great wee hall which can be used for a host of family celebrations.

said the Fundrasiers' James Fotheringham: "It could easily do for birthday and celebration parties along with other special events, having a small kitchen is a great bonus if having a function also.

"But the biggest draw back was the car park especially in wet weather or the winter months when it would just turn to a thick grey mud that ended up everywhere.

"Benarty Fundraisers had the idea of obtaining some Tar Plainings then have them laid to make the car park a lot better for acces"s.

He added: "We approached Ian Douglas & Sons, at Lochgelly and young Ian was happy to help and supplied 80 tons of plainings to the site at very reduced price for the Fundraisers.

"But our biggest problem was to get them laid in a way that would be cost effective and would make a difference to the public using the facilities at Lochore Welfare Social Club.

"Well after a few broken promises of help to lay the plainings and still waiting nearly 14 months since the stuff was delivered, it was like a godsend to have an offer of help from local Ballingry man, Ian Bruce and his company Vermicon.

"Ian's company does a lot work of this kind around the Perth & Kinross Area and gave us a pledge that he would do his best to get this job done as soon as the machinery was free".

In fact Ian got in touch with the Fundraisers last week to say he had managed to enrol the help of local contractor Trevor Harris and his workers who are is based at Lochgelly and who very kindly offered to supply everything free of charge.

Trevor Hires these machines out to companies and councils so they are always in very high demand and at a price.

But in this case Trevor and all his workers gave up their public holiday onday and turned up at 9am with a load of machines and got straight into the task in hand.

Added James: "They were a great bunch of guys and worked right through the day till the job was completed. Even the next day a few men were sent down to give the whole carpark another few run overs with the heavy roller.

"Benarty Fundraisers are so grateful for this very BIG ask and we can't thank Ian Bruce and Trevor Harris and all his boys enough.

"It was even more appreciated that Ian wanted to know what else we had planned to do within the Benarty Area and he is more than happy to help us with another major project we have planned to benefit the Benarty Commuity".

John Kirkland said that the project has made a massive difference to both the football club and the social club.

He said: "What an amazing piece of work. The car park was fine when it was dry but in the winter it would get very muddy but that will be in the history books now.

"We cannot thank the Fundraisers enough for their efforts on this and Ian and Trevor and the team who worked brilliantly to create this lovely surface.

"It means that the car park will be in great condition no matter what the weather and from a social club point of view this is fantastic."
