LOCHORE Old People's Welfare Council saw around 100 over seventies from Benarty enjoy an excellent day out last week.

The destination was Ayr on an overcast but very pleasant Tuesday morning, where two coaches collected the senior citizens from Ballingry, Lochore and Crosshill.

The first port of call was the Mackinnon Mills, at Coatbridge, where the restaurant and toilet facilities were available but many of the party also took into account the number of offers on various garments!

Leaving Coatbridge there was little sunshine but the temperature was very comfortable as the drive passed through some interesting areas and some with a lot of history.

Arriving in Ayr they were confronted with some drizzle but this soon disappeared as the Benarty pensioners started visiting the many shops, tearooms and hotels that the town boasts before heading for the impressive Fenwick Hotel, on the Kilmarnock Road, for high tea where the menu offered six excellent main meal alternatives.

After the meal senior citizens relaxed before making ready for the return journey after a great day out.

The verdict agreed was: "A very nice day which was thoroughly enjoyed and that is what it is all about."

Chairman of the Old People's Welfare Council, Joe Paterson, added: "Some senior citizens missed the drive because they could not get tickets but it should be noted that it is always on the second Tuesday of July.

"The drive is advertised and where the tickets can be obtained is always carried in the Times' What About It column.

"Therefore by the beginning of June you should see these notices beginning to appear."
