HILL of Beath Community Council is very much up and running and looking forward to playing a lead role as the village continues to develop in size.

After looking like it may have to be dissolved through the loss of a number of members through people moving away from the village, a crisis meeting was held at the Hill of Beath Ex-Servicemen's Club.

And the people of the village rallied around with over 30 people attending the meeting and the community council was saved.

New officials were elected and a full council put in place and local councillors were delighted with the way the meeting went.

Councillor Alex Campbell said: "It was so very encouraging to see the excellent turn out at the meeting and it shows that the villagers want to play their part in helping shape the future of Hill of Beath.

"As the Baxterfield estate continues to develop more and more new residents will be coming to Hill of Beath and it is important that the community council is there to help play their part in the way that facilities come along as the population grows."

Councillor Campbell was also pleased that former chairman Willie Bishop has agreed to stay on the community council.

He added: "All in all it is a very positive situation and I look forward, along with my fellow Cowdenbeath councillors, to helping the community council take things forward."

One of the first improvements in facilities could be an astro surface area near the community centre as part of the improvements linked to the primary school.

There will be a busy autumn for the new community council as it settles down to tackle village issues.
