A PUBLIC meeting is being held this Thursday evening to examine how mining artefacts could be used at Lochore Meadows Country Park.
The artefacts are currently at Leven in the yard belonging to Fife Heritage Railway. There are three artefacts that need to be moved to the Meedies they are a cage, an old type of coal cutter, and a mine car.
Said Robert Chalmers, who is organising the meeting which will start at 7pm at the Willie Clarke Centre at the park: "The cage is, to my knowledge, the last pit cage in Scotland and should be preserved for the nation along with the two other items.
"The cage, in my opinion could be used in the same manner as the monument at Easington Colliery.
"I have over the past few months been raising the issue with several Heritage groups in Fife, as well as individuals, and I have a meeting arranged at the Willie Clarke Centre 7pm on Thursday to discuss with these groups the best way forward to preserve these artefacts. Anyone interested in this piece of mining history I would be delighted to hear from."
