THE Benarty Pipe Band Contest probably enjoyed its best day weather wise since it started some years ago when the pipers had a great time at Lochore Meadows Country Park on Saturday.

The conditions could not have been better with the sun high in the sky and there was an excellent turn out of supporters for the bands and people from the Benarty area and beyond enjoying the entertainment.

This included some keenly contested piping and also an excellent series of Highland Dancing competitions.

The dancers also enjoyed the conditions as did their families.

On the piping front the Lochgelly High School band was again to the fore playing expertly for such young contenders.

Lochgelly High School's returns were excellent in Grade Four where they finished first ahead of of the very strong Edradour Pitlochry and Blair Atholl Band. Third was Coupar Angus Burgh; fourth Scots PGC College - Australia; and fifth City of St. Andrews.

Grade 4 A was won by Methil and District, who pipped Glenrothes and District 2010 into second place with RAF Central Scotland Pipes and Drums third.

Grade Three was won by Carnoustie and District who pipped Methil and District with Glenrothes and District 2010 third and RAF Central Scotland fourth.

In Grade Two MacKenzie Caledonian were the winners ahead of Carnoustie and District.

Grade 1 saw Scottish Power continue their run of success at the Meedies by winning the top spot from MacKenzie Caledonian.

Benarty Events Group were delighted with the way the day went.
