LOCHORE Meadows Country Park is to be the venue for an event which is geared to celebrating the value of Fife's young people.

As part of 'Year of the Young People 2018' the event for families will be held at the Meedies on August 18 and Cowdenbeath Area Committee is welcoming it.

At their last meeting councillors backed a motion tabled by convener, Councillor Linda Erskine.

The motion read: 'Cowdenbeath Area Committee welcomes the opportunities the Year of Young People brings to celebrate the young people of Fife.

'This Area Committee values the contribution that young people make to our communities and want to support them to celebrate their achievements. The YOSCARS events have been our annual celebration of young peoples' hard work throughout the year and it gives an opportunity to showcase their talents through youth work, sports, learning and volunteering in their communities.

'As part of the celebrations of the Year of Young People, Community Learning Development staff are in the early stages of organising a Fife wide event which will take place in Lochore Meadows on August 18. Cowdenbeath Area Committee supports and welcomes this family event to our country park and wish the CLD staff every success in their endeavours to deliver such an exciting project.'

The motion was proposed by Councillor Linda

Erskine and seconded by Councillor Alex Campbell.

Councillor Erskine said: "We hope that the young people from other parts of Fife will join our young people at Lochore Meadows to celebrate what will be a marvellous occasion."

Councillor Mary Lockhart agreed: "Such is the availability of activities at the Meedies I hope it is packed by young people on August 18.

"There is kayaking, cycling, nature walks among a host of other things and on August 18 the park should be buzzing."

Cowdenbeath councillor, Darren Watt added: "Our young people are our biggest asset and I am sure the Meadows day will be a massive event."

The Area Committee agreed to support the motion.
