THE winners of a memorial art competition for a founding member of Kelty and District Art Group are set to be announced.

More than 300 youngsters from local primary schools submitted their entries into the contest which pays tribute to the community group's first chairman.

Jim McLure passed away in September 2016 and now has a trophy named in his honour.

The Jim McLure Memorial Cup is open to any kids in Kelty from P4 to P7.

Pupils from both Kelty PS and St Joseph's PS put forward their works for the competition being run for its second year.

Mr McLure was an accomplished artist who specialised in the use of soft pastels and was known for passing his knowledge on to young artists.

A private prizegiving ceremony will take place on Friday, June 15 before the winning paintings are revealed to the public as part of the group's summer exhibition on Saturday.

Entry is free and the exhibition runs from 10am to 4pm at Kelty Community Centre.
