CARDENDEN Playparks Group complete their first year of work this week to ensure that young children in the village have top class facilities to enjoy.

The Playparks Group, made up of young mums, was set-up when they were concerned at the loss of the playpark near Cardenden Primary School.

They plan to replace the equipment and have been raising money in the community and a fun day last summer raised close on £1,000.

The ladies have been working hard and have a number of bids for grants lodged and over the next few weeks they hope to receive good news on these, but before that is their 2018 fun day on Sunday.

The Corrie Centre will be the base for the fun day and it will create the chance for families to go along and make it a big community event.

Treasurer Lynette Ross said: "We are hoping for fine weather and the opportunity to keep our fundraising going.

"Things will start at noon and go through to 3pm and there will be a host of crafts, family games and crafts plus tombola, face painting, beat the goalie, tattoos, Hook a Duck and many more things.

"There will be teas and coffees and home baking so a lot for the people of the village to enjoy."

Added Lynette: "It has been a very busy year for us and a lot of progress has been made.

"Our fundraising has been busy but crucially we have several grant bids being considered just now and if these are successfully we will be well on our way to our target."

Lynette explained that the group was set up after the equipment at the playpark at Cardenden Primary was condemned and much of it removed.

She went on: "We want to replace what has been taken away with new state of the art equipment and we have the plans in place.

"Hopefully we can make some great funds from the Corrie Centre Day and we hope on Sunday to be able to reveal our target and also what we have achieved so far."
