THE initiatives planned for the remainder of 2018 by Central Fife Crime Prevention Panel will definitely include their Elderly Forum.

That was confirmed at the Panel's annual general meeting on Wednesday when a number of initiatives, with a crime prevention and community safety theme were on the table.

The Elderly Forum started in the early 1990s and has become one of the Panel's most popular events.

The meeting, held in the Maxwell Centre, in Cowdenbeath, heard that the Forum in November had their biggest turn out of senior citizens when over 90 veterans had attended the Lochgelly Town hall event.

Panel chairman, Colin Bird said: "It is a day which has attracted interest from other parts of the country.

"In November there were representatives from other parts of Police Scotland looking at what is done at our Elderly Forum and they appeared to be impressed so the same sort of event may be taking place in other parts of the country in 2018.

"From day one the Elderly Forum has been about local senior citizens being entertained by us and given the opportunity to receive key advice on crime prevention and safety in the home.

"Going back to the 1990s around 50 people were catered for but the interest is such these days that there were just over 90 at the event in November from all our communities ranging from Crossgates and Kelty in the west to Cardenden and Benarty in the east.
