CENTRAL FIFE individuals who have some time to spare are being asked to help people living with sight loss within their local community by becoming a befriender.

Fife Society for the Blind needs to recruit volunteers from across the Kingdom who can provide companionship and support to people with sight loss to access community activities.

The organisation has a successful history of providing befriending services which have enabled people with sight loss to become active and connected members of their local community.

Volunteer befrienders are making a huge difference to the life of the person with sight loss and also can meet new friends and learn new skills, for example, sight awareness, emergency first aid and guiding techniques training.

Marie Lindsey, Community Engagement Co-ordinator at Fife Society for the Blind, said:

“The role of the Volunteer Befriender is to support people who experience sight loss to feel less lonely and isolated, helping to achieve increased independence, involvement and belonging in their community.

“We are calling on the people of the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area who can donate some of their time to help make a difference to someone locally today.” For more details call 01592 644979.
