AS the legacy of the visit from the Beast from the East continues to be tackled, MSP Annabelle Ewing has assured that funding for repairs to damage to the road surfaces of the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area has been made available.

The snows of March and early April and frosts have seen holes appear in the roads of each of the local communities and the council roads department has been working hard to carry out repairs.

Following the recent announcement by the Scottish Government of an additional £10 million to assist local authorities in dealing with road repairs following the severe winter weather, allocations for individual local authorities have now been confirmed.

Welcoming the news that Fife Council is to get in excess of half a million pounds, Ms Annabelle Ewing MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Cowdenbeath constituency, said: “The weather this winter was unusually extreme and the toll it has taken on our roads is evident to us all.

“Councils always anticipate having to carry out road repairs once winter has passed but following the severity of this winter, the Scottish Government took the decision to step in with an announcement of an extra £10million to help Councils cope with the unexpected additional costs to their maintenance budgets.

“I welcomed that decision by the Scottish Government to help out local communities following the Beast from the East’s onslaughts and I am pleased to learn that Fife Council’s share of that extra money will be in excess of half a million pounds.”

Fife Council will be receiving £582,000 as their allocation from the Scottish Government’s additional £10 million.
