TWO members of the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly community were given special awards on Thursday marking their contribution to helping local causes.

Cowdenbeath Rotary Club presented Community Service Awards to Crossgates woman Eileen Spence and Ronnie Shevas from Cowdenbeath.

In making the presentations club president, Erica Lock, said: “Both these people have contributed so much to our various fund raising ventures over recent years.

“Eileen has been involved in our Ladies Day event since it started three years ago and has been our junior vice-president Marie Shevas’s first lieutenant in helping put together the impressive prize list that we have had over the years and also helping with other fundraising initiatives the club has had.

“Marie’s husband Ronnie has done so much good work in the community, the latest being helping Dick Campbell’s bid to raise £60,000 to create a sensory garden at the new care village in Lumphinnans.

“Also just recently he celebrated his 60th birthday and through it raised a considerable sum for the Rotary Club’s charities fund which benefits so many local good causes. He has always been delighted to get involved in projects which help people and both Eileen and Ronnie are people who fully deserve these awards.”

Eileen and Ronnie were ‘surprised’ to receive the Community Service Awards, but both said that they liked being involved in helping people and local causes.
