THE talents of young local people were underlined in two competitions organised by Cowdenbeath Rotary Club.

At Thursday’s meeting the winners of the Young Writer and Young Photographer competitions received their certificates.

In 2018 it was Lochgelly High School which supplied the entries for the competitions and their work was on display at the meeting.

There were a host of entries for both of these competitions and as president Erica Lock underlined, the judges had a very difficult job in selecting the winners.

The winner of the Young Writer award was Caitlin Truscott; and runner-up was Tenci Earnshaw.

The winner of the Young Photographer award was Jamie-Lee Harris and Casey Kinnear and Chloe Cooper joint runners-up.

The winners go forward to the district 1010 (Central and North Scotland) finals in the summer.

President Erica Lock said: “The creative and imaginative work of these young people has been outstanding.”

Youth convener Lesley Porter commented: “The competitions were really excellent and the talents shown outstanding.

“The assistance from staff at Lochgelly High was excellent throughout the competition and we warmly thank them.

“I am sure our entrants for the district finals will be excellent ambassadors for the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area.”

Lesley added: "The quality of the stories in the Young Writer's competition was excellent and the imagination shown by the authors was amazing.

"The Young Photographers competition saw the snappers out and about and again showing an excellent appreciation of what made a good photograph.

"The judges were highly impressed by what they were met with on what was a diccifult task."

The Times plans to feature some of the photos entered for the photography competition soon.
