A MAN who challenged others to fight in Cardenden when a family matter got out of hand has been admonished.

Jamie Brown was originally refused bail for the incident back in October and served 80 days in custody.

Brown, 32, of no fixed abode, did previously admit that on August 13 at Main Street, Cardenden, acting along with another, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause fear or alarm in that he did shout, swear, utter threats of violence and challenge others to a fight.

Dunfermline Sheriff Court was told that the incident began when Brown's mother asked him to search for his nephew.

She realised he was breaking his restriction of liberty order that required him to be home by 7pm.

At around 10pm some residents of Main Street could hear shouting and noise and contacted the police.

Brown was seen with around seven or eight other people, shouting and swearing and challenging others in the group to fight.

His nephew had a knife, but Brown had no contact with the weapon.

When police arrived, officers noticed that he was under the influence and charged him.

This week, his defence solicitor said Brown had been sentenced to 27 months in custody at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court the previous day for an unrelated matter.

"Mr Brown has issues with alcohol and drugs," she said.

"The background to this is that he had a back injury which he received medication for.

"His relationship broke down, resulting in his partner moving back down south and he got involved with a group of peers who used drugs and alcohol.

"Since he has been in Perth prison he has been working and taking counselling sessions.

"He is also involved in alcohol and drug awareness groups and wants to take advantage of the opportunities available to him while in prison.

"He effectively has already spent 12 weeks in custody for this offence when his bail was refused."

Sheriff Charles Macnair agreed that he had already been remanded in custody for three months for the offence and admonished Brown.
