IT is an exciting time in Lumphinnans with the development of a community garden in the village set to start.

And the Lumphinnans Tenants and Residents Association is giving the people of the village the chance to see the site tonight (Wednesday) and get input from them on what they would like to see in it.

Said treasurer Tracey McCann: "We are a having our AGM on Wednesday April 25, at 6pm at Lumphinnans Bowling Club and would like to extend a welcome to all who wish to attend.

"We are also in the process of starting a community garden at the end of Ochil View, and would like to encourage feedback from other residents on what they would like to see in the garden and consult them with what we have planned so far.

"We would like to invite the residents to a site visit on Wednesday April 18 at 6pm, and feedback from this will be taken to our AGM the following Wednesday".

The Tenants’ and Residents’ Association were delighted to have secured funding to begin transforming the disused garage site into the community garden.

Coalfields Community Futures Programme, which supports community-led regeneration within ex-mining villages by encouraging active citizenship and building local democracy, has awarded the group £3,000 towards the redevelopment of the vacant lot at the end of Ochil View.

Tracey McCann, explained how they intend spending the money: “This will enable us to buy a storage container and materials to build raised beds for planting flowers and vegetables.

"We hope that lots of local residents will get involved in this initiative and that it will help to grow community spirit, not only by giving families the opportunity to learn about gardening but also by encouraging everyone to take pride in our village”.

So go along on Wednesday and put your views over to the association on what you would like to see.
