A BALLINGRY rapper is set to appear on national television after his latest music video went viral.

Calum Mitchell's video Home Truths Pt2 had 5000 views after just six hours on YouTube and led to him being asked to perform on STV2's Live at Five programme.

"They contacted me and they said that they are waiting to get a slot booked in and it should be around the end of March time," he explained. "I am a bit nervous about it but looking forward to it as it is going to help me promote my music.

"The video was from my upcoming mix tape. I filmed it and put it on Facebook and got about 600 views so I uploaded it to You Tube and within six hours, had 5000 views."

The video which saw him gain media attention was filmed in a field close to his Ballingry home. He is planning to make further videos next month in the village and also in Lochore Meadows.

Calum, 29, is also hoping his career will further take off after this week winning an online competition which has given him the opportunity to showcase his music to representatives from Warner Brothers Music.

"It is a competition online and you submit your music and get people to vote for it," he explained. "I have been doing it for quite a while but this is the first time my music has been selected so I am going down for that on May 20.

"I will take a few mix tapes and whatever songs I have got and they will listen to them and I will get to talk about what I would like to do with my music."

While promoting his music, dad of five Calum is keen to raise awareness of mental health as he suffers from bipolar disorder and is keen to help others struggling with poor mental health.

"I am doing good just now," he said. "Hopefully the video I am going to make next, I will be able to raise money for Mind for Scotland through it."
