ANTI-SOCIAL behaviour in Cardenden has posed real concern for the village's community councillors with young people arriving from other communities to cause problems.

At their meeting on Thursday Cardenden Community Council had a discussion about a recent spell of anti-social behaviour which had seen members of the public airing their views.

Dave Roy, chairman of the Community Council, commented on how there had been a real rise in problems over the Christmas-New Year period.

He said: "The Christmas period and beyond saw a spike in anti-social behaviour in the Cardenden area with many complaints from the public to Police Scotland.

"Most of the problems were being caused by youths coming into the village from other areas.

"In response to this the Police put extra teams into the village, including a camera van and this immediately made a difference. "The Community Council would like to send a clear message to those people that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in our village and we urge anyone witnessing anti-social behaviour to contact Police Scotland immediately".

He added: "The vast majority of our residents are responsible, law-abiding people and we will not let a minority ruin things for everyone else”.

The Community Councillors have also called for CCTV cameras to be installed in the village to help combat anti-social behaviour and protect the public and properties.
