A DRUG addict who committed a long list of shoplifting offences in this area has been jailed for 11 months.

Mark Steel struck repeatedly at shops.

Steel, 43, had various addresses throughout Fife and Edinburgh when he committed the offences. He also failed to comply with community payback orders and was sentenced again for the crimes.

He admitted a catalogue of stealing. On June 5, 2015, at Asda, St Leonards Street, Dunfermline, he stole a quantity of razors, groceries and alcohol.

On October 25 2015, at Lumphinnans Road, Lochgelly, he stole a bottle of wine. On June 16 2015, at Debenhams, Kingsgate Centre, he breached an undertaking not to enter there. He also stole a bottle of body spray from Debenhams. On February 21 2016, at Tesco, Turnstone Road, Dunfermline, he stole a quantity of alcohol and food items. On March 1 2016, at Semi-Chem, High Street, Cowdenbeath, he stole a quantity of perfume. On August 24 2016, at Debenhams, Kingsgate Centre, Dunfermline, he stole a bottle of fragrance. On October 20 2016, at Morrisons, Raith Centre, Cowdenbeath, he stole five bottles of vodka.

Defence solicitor Roshni Joshi said: “He’s had an extremely chaotic lifestyle and has mental health difficulties.”

Sheriff Charles MacNair told Steel: “Over a significant period you committed numerous shoplifting offences. You were given numerous chances of non-custodial sentences.” He jailed Steel for eight months for one batch of offences plus another 100 days for the others.
