THE trail which tracks the development of Lochgelly as a town impressed senior representatives of Lochgelly High School.

Three of the school's newly elected Senior Captains, Craig Dunlop, Nicole Gorniak and Jay Farmer, attended the grand opening of the eagerly anticipated Lochgelly Heritage Trail.  Dressed proudly in their uniform, mentioned and noted by many others at the ceremony, they stood with Provost Jim Leishman and other local VIP’s as the history of Lochgelly was celebrated.

Said LHS depute rector Sarah Wozniak: "They confidently discussed the history of mining in their local town, eagerly taking in the stories and information being given by those who remember Lochgelly’s world famous industrial heritage.  "They also took a walk along the old Pug train line, taking in the beauty of the area as well as appreciating the hard work put in by the volunteers who have developed this wonderful project.

"Our captains left with great enthusiasm to join the Lochgelly Heritage Group and keep the history and pride alive amongst all young people in the town".

The Heritage Group has a number of projects in the pipeline, the biggest being the construction of a Miners' Cottage on the trail site which will show what life was like when Coal was King in Lochgelly.
